Szechuan Style BBQ Sauce

Umami sauce draws its inspiration from the heart of China's Sichuan province, a region renowned for its bold, complex, and intensely flavored dishes. There, cuisine is a true science of contrast: hot and cold, sweet and savory, crispy and melting... and above all, hot and numbing. It's the famous Sichuan pepper, with its unique anesthetic effect, that creates this electrifying sensation in the mouth—a kind of lemony tingle that makes your mouth water. Combined with the fire of Korean Gochugaru and the power of Bhut Jolokia, this explosive trio gives birth to a BBQ sauce as sweet as it is formidable, perfect for transforming any dish into a vibrant homage to East Asia. Umami is more than a sauce: it's a modern nod to a thousand-year-old culinary tradition, passionately reinterpreted in Montreal.

Ingredients

Tamari sauce

Gluten-free soy sauce. It's used for its salty, umami flavor and its deeper taste than regular soy sauce, which pairs wonderfully with chili peppers. It adds intensity and aromatic richness.

Ginger

Ginger, a rhizome with lemony notes and a fresh tang, awakens the taste buds and energizes sauces. Raw, it stings; cooked, it softens, offering brightness and tension while amplifying the perception of other flavors.

spices

This is the heart of our recipes. Spices are used for their complexity and ability to create a symphony of flavors. We combine them to create unique profiles that take us on a journey in a single bite, while providing unforgettable warmth and length.

Producers

Quebec

Our sauces are made entirely in Montreal, using peppers grown right here in Quebec. Each bottle embodies our passion for authentic flavor, well-balanced heat, and respect for the terroir. It's our way of bottling the richness of Quebec, one pepper at a time.
